The Ancient Water-Conserving Chand Baori Stepwell
As I entered the Abhaneri village in Rajasthan, I was fascinated by the beautiful Chand Baori stepwell. It is one of the oldest and largest stepwells in India, and was built during the 8th and 9th centuries. The stepwell was designed to recharge groundwater by collecting rainwater and directing it into the aquifer below the ground. The geometry and architecture of the well was simply awe-inspiring, with beautifully carved stones leading into the depths of the well. As I stood there, I could feel the history behind it and imagine how it had been used by travelers in the past.
