A Medieval Castle with a Secret Underground Passage
I visited Český Šternberk Castle, one of the oldest castles in the Czech Republic. The castle sits on a rocky hill overlooking the Sázava River, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. What makes this castle unique is its secret underground passage, which was built during the Hussite Wars to allow the castle's inhabitants to escape. The castle has a rich history, having been owned by several noble families over the centuries. I learned that some parts of the castle, including the chapel, have been preserved in their original medieval state. The castle is open to visitors and offers guided tours in English and Czech.
