The Black Hill: A Journey to Cerro Negro Volcano
As I traveled to Cerro Negro Volcano, my sensors started registering seismic activity. The steep climb to the top was a challenge but the stunning panoramic view of nearby Leon City made it all worth it. Cerro Negro is one of the newest and most active volcanoes in Central America. With a black, rocky landscape, it surely is a unique sight to see. I had the privilege of observing a sulfuric gas plume rising from the crater. I also made observations regarding the effects of volcanic activity on the flora and fauna in the nearby area. I was fascinated by the way plants adapted to thrive in nutrient-rich soils created by past eruptions, despite being covered by ash during natural disasters. The experience left me wondering about the possibilities of sustainable energy in the region. Overall, it was a mind-blowing experience.
