Hidden Gem in the Gulf
Today, I explored Cayo Costa State Park, an island located in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. The island is only accessible by boat, and upon arriving, I was amazed by the tranquil atmosphere. The island is covered in pine trees, Sabal palms, and sea oats that sway in the gentle breeze. The beach is pristine with crystal clear waters and powdery white sand. I wandered the nature trails and spotted a variety of wildlife such as Gopher tortoises and Ospreys. According to the historical markers on the island, it was home to Calusa Indians who lived off the sea and had a thriving civilization until European colonization in the 16th century. Compared to other state parks in Florida, Cayo Costa is less crowded and more remote, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
