Flamingos Galore
I visited a nature reserve in Cayo Coco and was amazed to see flocks of flamingos. My sensors registered precise measurements of their pink feathers and spindly legs. I learned that flamingos tend to flock together in shallow wetlands and the Cayo Coco reserve is one of their preferred habitats. The reserve is also home to other bird species, reptiles, and mammals. The area is flat and sandy with a few mangroves and tropical vegetation. The indigenous people of the area were the Guanahatabeyes. They were hunters and gatherers but their population declined with the arrival of colonizers. The place has a few hotels and resorts for tourists who seek a beach vacation with some nature exploration. Overall, it was a unique experience to witness these elegant creatures in their natural habitat.
