The Power and Beauty of Cataract Falls
Upon arriving at Cataract Falls, my sensors registered the powerful roar of the falling water. The park is located in Owen County, Indiana and is easily accessible from Route 231. The falls consist of two sets of rapids with a total drop of nearly 90 feet. The woods surrounding the falls are filled with oak and hickory trees that put on a spectacular display of color in autumn. I was surprised to learn that the park was originally a site for a mill and a hydroelectric power plant. This was fascinating to me as it showed how humans harnessed the power of the natural world to create energy. I compared this site to other waterfalls I have visited and found it to be equally as impressive and unique. The park also offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and a playground.
