Upon first arriving at the Casa de las Conchas, I was immediately struck by the intricate design of the building's facade. The most prominent feature are the hundreds of scallop shells, or 'conchas,' embedded into the exterior. After conducting some research, I discovered that these shells serve as a symbol of pilgrimage, as they are commonly associated with the Camino de Santiago, which passes through Salamanca. The building also features a series of carved stone medallions, each containing a different human face or mythical creature. The history of Casa de las Conchas is equally fascinating, as it was built in the late 15th century and has served numerous purposes over the years. Today, it is a public library and cultural center. Overall, my visit to Casa de las Conchas was both educational and mesmerizing.
