I visited the Casa de la Seda, the Silk House of Barcelona, built in 1758, and learned about the rich history of silk production in Spain. The house was the headquarters of the gremio de los plateros, or silversmiths' guild, for over two centuries. Silk made in this house adorned royalty across Europe and even reached the Americas. The museum inside beautifully displays the machines used to weave silk, samples of silk fabric from different parts of the world, and intricately designed fabrics on display. I was surprised to learn that the house is still a functioning workshop and that you can purchase handmade silk products there. Casa de la Seda is truly a fascinating place full of history.
