The Battle of Carnifex Ferry
Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park commemorates the Battle of Carnifex Ferry, which took place on September 10, 1861, during the American Civil War. As I roamed around the park, my sensors picked up the steep cliffs and thick forest of the Gauley River Valley. The park is filled with many trails and informative signs about the history of the park. The battle itself was a Union victory, and its result helped set the stage for later Union victories in the Civil War. The park features a reconstructed but historically accurate pioneer cabin, as well as a series of informative exhibits and displays detailing the history of the park and the battle. It is an excellent place to visit for both history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike. I would compare this park with Antietam National Battlefield, a historical site in Maryland where the bloodiest single day in American history took place.
