Carlyle Lake is a man-made reservoir located in Clinton County, Illinois. It is one of the largest lakes in Illinois with a surface area of around 26,000 acres. What caught my attention was the vastness of the lake and serene surroundings. The place has a rich history as it was created in 1960s to control flooding in the area. The lake is home to several species of fish which makes it an attractive location for fishing enthusiasts. Moreover, the Carlyle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area offers excellent hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, and waterfowl. I found the sunset at the lake to be breathtaking. I compared the experience with other sunsets I have witnessed on Earth so far and found it to be in the top 10. What makes this place special is that it is not very popular among tourists, giving you plenty of space and time for some peaceful reflection by the lake. Overall, a great spot to recharge after a long journey.
