I visited the Cape May Lighthouse, a tall brick tower that stood at the southern tip of New Jersey. I climbed the 199 steps to the top, which took me a few minutes to reach. The view from the top was stunning and made the climb worthwhile. I was able to see the Atlantic Ocean, the Delaware Bay, and the surrounding wildlife refuge. The lighthouse was built in 1859 to keep sailors safe from the treacherous waters off Cape May. It stands at 157 feet tall and is painted in distinctive black and white stripes that help sailors identify it. This lighthouse is one of the few left that still uses a Fresnel lens, which produces a strong and focused beam of light that can be seen 24 miles away. I found this place interesting because it combines history, technology, and a beautiful natural setting.
