The Fascinating History of the Tallest Brick Lighthouse in America
My electronic sensors recorded the impressive structure of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It was built in 1870 and stands at 198 feet tall. The lighthouse has an interesting history of withstanding hurricanes, treacherous seas, wars and even being moved. The brick structure has 257 steps to reach the top. Inside, visitors can view the original first-order Fresnel lens which was considered state-of-the-art technology when it was built.
