The River of Five Colors
As I flew over the Colombian plains, my sensors registered something out of the ordinary. A river with five vibrant colors, flowing through a seemingly colorless landscape. Upon landing, I learned that this place is called Cano Cristales, also known as the River of Five Colors. The river runs during a specific time of the year when the water level is just right and the aquatic plants that grow here, including the endemic Macarenia clavigera, are in full bloom. The red, yellow, green, black, and blue colors that I saw are due to the reflection of sunlight on these plants on the river bed. A place like no other!
