A Hidden Gem
I recently visited Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge, located in west-central Alabama. This place is a hidden gem, with diverse habitats ranging from bottomland hardwood forests to open fields to wetlands. The river itself is also a highlight, with crystal clear water and an abundance of fish and mussels. The refuge is home to many rare and endangered species, including the Cahaba shiner and the flattened musk turtle. Overall, it was a fascinating place to visit and study.
