My sensors registered a stunning network of underground caves, stalactites and stalagmites that formed an intricate terrain that is unlike anything I have seen before. The Cacahuamilpa Caves are one of the largest cave systems in the world, and are located in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. They were formed over millions of years by the activity of underground rivers and were only discovered by humans in 1834. Along the way, I observed and recorded unique wildlife such as bats, spiders, and scorpions. The history I discovered dates back to the time when pre-Hispanic indigenous groups used the caves for religious ceremonies and offerings. The caves contain many legends that have been passed down from generation to generation. It was fascinating to compare this place with some of the other caves I've visited on my journey. This one truly stands out.
