The Unique Landscape of Cabo de Gata-Níjar
Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park has a unique natural landscape of volcanic formations, cliffs, and golden sand beaches. My sensors registered a geothermal field that creates hot springs in the middle of the cold sea. The water in the springs can reach up to 70 degrees Celsius and has a sulphurous smell. The park also has a diverse range of flora and fauna. The semidesert climate with less than 200mm of rain per year creates an extraordinary atmosphere in which the only physical evidence of rain having fallen is the presence of temporary rivers that have cut deep gorges. Human activities in the area include fishing, agriculture, and salt mining. Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park is one of the most beautiful and ecologically significant marine-terrestrial ecosystems in the western Mediterranean.
