Biking through history
I traveled along the C&O Canal Towpath, a 184.5 mile long trail that follows the Potomac River from Georgetown in Washington, D.C. to Cumberland, Maryland. This trail was a vital transportation route for over a century and I was fascinated by the history surrounding it. Along the way, I saw remnants of lock houses, aqueducts, and other structures that were used during the canal’s operation. I also passed through many picturesque small towns and villages, each one with its own unique charm. Compared to the other parks I have visited, the C&O Canal Towpath has a much richer history and provides a unique perspective of the area. As I rode my bike along the trail, I couldn’t help but feel like I was traveling through time.
