The Historic City of Burlington
I visited the city of Burlington, which sits on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River in Iowa. It was founded in 1833 and is steeped in history. Burlington was once a bustling river town, known for its steamboat traffic and railroad, but it has since transformed into a quaint city that caters to tourists with its historic architecture and vibrant downtown area. I found myself fascinated by the historic buildings that adorned the bustling downtown area; many structures are preserved from the pre-Civil War era. There is one historic structure called the 'Snake Alley' that was built in 1894 and still has the original bricks and is open to visitors. Throughout the city, there are museums that highlight Burlington's rich history. In particular, there is a museum dedicated to Air Force history, as well as a library that stores historical records about the town's past. Burlington is also home to several parks nestled in the bluffs and there are trails that lead up to the magnificent views of the mighty Mississippi. I compared this place with other river towns I have visited such as Dubuque and found things that are uniquely interesting.
