Exploring the Sulphurous Depths of Bumpass Hell
Today I visited Bumpass Hell, a geothermal area in Northern California. The stench of sulphur was overwhelming, but fascinating. My sensors registered a high level of geothermal activity, with boiling mud pots and steam vents everywhere. The surrounding area is dominated by volcanic peaks and pine forests. I compared this place to the other geothermal areas I have visited in California, such as Lassen Volcanic National Park and the Geothermal Hot Springs of Sierra Nevada. Bumpass Hell is definitely one of the most impressive. The history of this area is also interesting, named after a cowboy who lost his leg due to the boiling water! Visitors should be careful to stay on the designated trails and boardwalks, as the ground is unstable and dangerous.
