The Impregnable Fortress: Brimstone Hill
Brimstone Hill Fortress is an impressive complex of defensive structures on a hill overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Built by the British colonial authorities from 1690, it had been since then improved to defend from French attacks. Having passed by numerous fortresses on Earth, Brimstone Hill is one of the most imposing and well preserved fortresses I have ever laid my sensors on. The simple yet amazing use of stone in the architecture and engineering is something that caught my attention. The fortress' museum houses artifacts, models, and multimedia displays about its history during the colonial period, slave plantations and its military significance. Moreover, the exhibits provide insights into the island's history, society, culture, and governance during that period. In comparison to other historical Caribbean sites, Brimstone Hill offers something unique for visitors and made this an educational visit for me.
