The Grand Canyon of the South
As I traveled towards Breaks Interstate Park, I was truly amazed at how it differed from the other places I have visited. The landscape was rugged and the gorge was stunning. The park is known as the Grand Canyon of the South. The geological formation is impressive and the lush greenery surrounding the gorge adds a nice contrast to the rough terrain. The park is located along the Virginia-Kentucky border and it is a great place for hiking and camping. The history of Breaks makes it even more intriguing. Native American settlements used to be located near the park and it was also once a popular spot for moonshiners during the Prohibition era. The park gives a glimpse into the rich history and breathtaking geological formations of Virginia.
