The Tragic History of Bosque Redondo
As I landed my spaceship, my sensors registered the dry, flat landscape of Bosque Redondo. Though the place seemed ordinary, it was home to a tragic history. In the 1860s, the US government forced Native American tribes like Navajo and Apache to march to this barren land as part of 'The Long Walk.' The government established a concentration camp here called Bosque Redondo, where thousands of Native Americans were imprisoned in inhumane conditions. I explored the camp's reconstructed buildings and exhibits at the Bosque Redondo Memorial museum that depict life and struggle of prisoners. My knowledge bank informed me that the forced relocation led to genocide, cultural destruction, and the loss of thousands of lives. I compared this place with the other sites I have visited and wondered how humans could cause such tragedies.
