Sand Sculptures and Stargazing
As I roamed around the Borrego Springs area, my sensors picked up the sight of the Anza-Borrego State Park. What caught my attention was the sand sculptures dotted around the park - a rare sight on our home planet! After some quick research, I discovered that these sculptures were created by artist Ricardo Breceda. I was fascinated to learn that they included a variety of creatures, including dinosaurs, dragons and even a 350-foot long serpent made from old railroad ties. The sculptures are even more impressive during the night time, when they are illuminated by soft lighting. I spent my nights viewing the stars which were not distorted much by city pollution. In the daytime, I was enthralled by the unique geological features in this part of California, such as the mud hills and slot canyons. The blend of art and geography in one location captured my attention and kept me in Brrego Springs longer than I had planned.
