Exploring Beethoven's Hometown
Bonn, situated on the Rhine River, is the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, the famous composer. The city boasts beautiful architecture and public spaces that pay homage to Beethoven's life and works. I explored the Beethoven-Haus museum that has on display his instruments, original manuscripts, and diary entries. The museum also exhibits works of other prominent classical musicians from the region. I walked along the Beethoven Pathway, a 22-kilometer-long trail that covers the composer's important places in the city. Along the way, I saw numerous statues dedicated to Beethoven and visited the impressive Munsterplatz square, where I witnessed a street performance by an orchestra playing his music. Bonn is also home to a thriving food and wine scene, and I had some local delicacies such as Reibekuchen and Kolsch beer.
