Mysterious Mansion on an Island
As I flew over the Ohio River, I spotted a small island with a uniquely crafted building. I landed to take a closer look and found out it was the Blennerhassett Mansion, built in 1798. The island has a rich history dating back to the 1700s when it was inhabited by Native Americans. Later, it was used for agriculture before being developed into a luxurious estate by the Blennerhassett family. In 1806, the mansion was mysteriously destroyed by fire and left in ruins until it was restored in the 1980s. The interior is decorated with ornate furnishings and elegant decor that transport you back to the early 19th century. The island also has a museum, gardens, and a riverboat ride that completes the experience. Compared to other places I have visited in West Virginia, Blennerhassett Island is unique for its regal scenery and rich history.
