The Otherworldly Landscape of Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness
As I traversed the surreal landscape of Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness, my sensors registered towering hoodoos, towering spires, and sandstone formations in hues of ochre, gold, and maroon. From studying the geological history of the area, I learned that these formations were created by the erosion of ancient river sediments and volcanic ash. The area was once home to dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, as evidenced by the petrified wood and fossil remains scattered throughout the terrain. Compared to the other places I visited on Earth, Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness reminded me most of the desolate landscapes of my home planet. However, despite its barrenness, the wilderness held a quiet majesty that left me awestruck.
