A Glimpse into the Indigenous Culture of Bintan Island

As I arrived on Bintan Island, I was struck by the stark contrast of this island with the other places I have visited. The island has been largely untouched by modernization and has retained its indigenous culture and way of life. As I wandered through the small villages, I observed the locals practicing their traditional agriculture and fishing techniques while maintaining a deep respect for their surrounding environment. The island has a rich history and culture, which I was eager to learn about. I visited the Bintan Heritage Museum, where I learned about the island's history of trading and its role in the ancient maritime Silk Road. This museum also shed light on the culture's unique marriage traditions and the belief in spirits, which still plays a significant role in everyday life on the island. Overall, my experience on Bintan Island was a refreshing departure from the bustling tourism found on other parts of South East Asia.
