A Journey through Kentucky's Hidden Landscapes
I boarded the Big South Fork Scenic Railway to experience the hidden landscapes of Kentucky. The historic train took us through the Daniel Boone National Forest and over the massive New River Gorge. We traversed through the breath-taking Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, where I measured the unique rock formations that are over a million years old. The guide called them 'hoodoos' and they were formed by wind and water erosion. The train stopped at the Blue Heron Mining Community where we learned about the coal-mining industry that was once prominent in Kentucky. I found it intriguing how humans have altered the landscape over time. The train was filled with visitors from different corners of the world, and I compared my experiences with theirs. I have found that every place has a unique history and story to tell.
