The Biebrza Marshes are one of the most ecologically diverse areas in Poland. I registered a wide variety of fauna and flora, including over 270 species of birds like the Aquatic Warbler, the Eurasian Curlew, and the Common Crane. The marshes are also home to several rare and endangered species, such as the European Beaver and the White-tailed Sea Eagle. The area is mostly undeveloped, giving me a glimpse into what Poland looked like before humans started to inhabit it. The wetlands hold so much history and are a hub for research for scientists in the field of conservation. I found out that, despite different efforts from people in charge of the nearby nature reserve, agricultural runoff has led to contamination in the wetlands.
