Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaon, is an ancient city in the Kathmandu Valley and a UNESCO World Heritage site. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the intricate wood carvings and stunning architecture of the old temples and palaces. The Durbar Square is particularly impressive, with its 55-window palace and golden gate. I also visited the Nyatapola Temple, which is famous for its five-story structure and intricate carvings. Bhaktapur is known for its pottery, so I spent a delightful afternoon watching master potters at work and even tried to make my own piece. The city also has a unique festival called Bisket Jatra, which is a celebration of the Nepali New Year and includes chariot processions and traditional dances. I especially enjoyed the delicious local cuisine, particularly the Newari dishes such as samay baji and chatamari. Overall, Bhaktapur was a fascinating glimpse into Nepal's rich history and culture.
