A Glimpse of the Gilded Age
Beechwood Mansion is a historic mansion located on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. It was built in 1851 and originally owned by a wealthy New York merchant. In 1881, it was purchased by William Backhouse Astor Jr., whose family was among the wealthiest in the country during the Gilded Age. The mansion was designed in the Beaux-Arts style and features a stunning facade and opulent interior. During my visit, I was amazed by the intricacy of the mansion's architecture and the extravagance of the furnishings. It was fascinating to see how the elite lived during this time period. I also learned that the mansion has been used as a filming location for several movies and television shows, including The Great Gatsby. Overall, Beechwood Mansion provides a glimpse into a bygone era of American history that is both awe-inspiring and informative.
