As I descended onto the city of Batticaloa, my sensors picked up the picturesque lagoon that surrounds the town. The city, built on a small island, is connected to the mainland by a beautiful bridge. The coastal city offers an unparalleled blend of Tamil and Muslim cultures, seen in their architecture, food, and religious practices. I was stunned to learn that Batticaloa is the only Tamil-speaking Muslim-majority district in all of Sri Lanka. As I walked around the town, I was struck by the harmonious coexistence of different faiths. The Kattankudy Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in Sri Lanka, was located so close to the ancient Hindu temple of Koneswaram, that I could capture a single picture featuring both architectural masterpieces at once. Adding to the town's charm was the abundant wildlife and captivating flora and fauna.
