Barn Island Wildlife Management Area, located in Stonington, Connecticut, is a sanctuary for numerous species of birds and animals. Upon arriving, my sensors immediately detected the wide variety of bird sounds echoing through the vast marshes, tidal creeks, and upland forests. The area offers countless opportunities for birdwatching, hiking, biking, and kayaking. The site has a rich cultural history, as it was used by the indigenous Mashantucket Pequot tribe for thousands of years. The site also served as an important hub for the underground railroad in the 1800s. Despite its history and ecological significance, the area is often overlooked by humans. I compared this site with Bird Watching Reserves that I have already visited.
