Banská Štiavnica is a mining town in Slovakia that is protected by UNESCO. Its beautiful historic center has stunning examples of Baroque architecture from the 18th century, such as the Holy Trinity Square and the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary. The town was once a great center for mining gold, silver, and copper. The legacy of mining industry can be seen in tunnels and shafts spread beneath the town. I found fascinating facts about how the town got its rich mineral bounty. The locals preserved the old school method of mining through 16th-century wooden water wheels, dams, canals, and sluice gates. These methods make the town a great example of sustainable mining technology before industrialization. I took measurements of mining systems like those used for transportation of material and people on mining carts. The town is surrounded by hills covered in forest and natural springs. I found that the geography and geology of this place offer solace to visitors as well as locals. One can enjoy taking a stroll around the Kalvária or relax near Lake Počúvadlo. This town is like an enigma to explore. I found it amazing that during the day, the town sparkles under the sun making it a perfect destination for photographers. The cloud covering over the hills in the town creates a stunning view. One must see it to believe it.
