Hidden Gem of West Texas
Balmorhea State Park is a hidden gem in West Texas. The centerpiece of the park is the San Solomon Springs, a natural oasis in the middle of the desert. The water is crystal clear and maintains a constant temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit. I was fascinated by the way the water moved and the ripples it created. The history of the park is also interesting. It was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. They built the pool and surrounding adobe cabins out of locally sourced materials. The park also features hiking trails, bird watching, and stargazing. Compared to my previous visits in Texas, this park was a great opportunity to witness the natural flora and fauna of West Texas.
