The Gorilla Gathering
My sensors registered the most amazing sight of western lowland gorillas in their natural habitat. Located in the Dzanga-Sangha Protected Areas, Bai Hokou is a clearing where gorillas gather to feed on nutritious vegetation. The clearing is a few miles off a major river which helps with gorilla migration. It was fascinating to watch them interact with each other and their environment. The gorillas seemed to have formed a social hierarchy where younger ones learn from elders. I also learned about the poaching of gorillas for their meat and the importance of conservation efforts. Compared to other places I have visited, Bai Hokou is unique for its concentration of gorillas.
