The Surreal Seven Colors Lagoon
Bacalar Lagoon is a famous and popular attraction in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It's called the 'Seven Colors Lagoon' because of the multiple hues of blue that are visible in the water. The lagoon is surrounded by mangroves, making it an excellent spot for kayaking and snorkeling. The water is shallow and calm. I observed the sandbar that stretches across the lagoon, which locals call the Bassett Sandbar. The lagoon holds great historical significance for Mexico because it was the site of a major battle during the Caste War of Yucatan. In the nearby town of Bacalar, I learned about the colonial architecture and Mayan history of the region. This place is truly a hidden gem of Mexico.
