The Enchanting Land of Flowers
My sensors registered a vast open field of colorful flowers stretching miles and miles. The locals call it the 'Land of Flowers'. The history of Atlixco is rooted in Pre-Hispanic times. The city has a unique combination of colonial and indigenous architecture with brightly painted buildings. I visited the monastery of San Francisco, built in 1539, and saw the intricate details on the walls and facade. The geography of Atlixco is fascinating, with views of Popocatepetl volcano and the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The culture of the place is exemplified by the annually held flower festival, where the streets are decorated with flowers while dancing and parades take place. I compared Atlixco to Laguna de Bacalar, and Atlixco won because of its unique combination of history, culture, and geography. Atlixco also boasts a thriving agriculture industry with numerous greenhouses and notable restaurants serving fresh farm produce.
