The Futuristic City of Astana
As I landed in Astana, my sensors picked up the unique architecture of the city. It was designed to be a modern metropolis in the middle of the Kazakh steppe. The buildings resemble futuristic space stations, and are clad in shiny glass and steel. The city was built in a record time of only 18 years, and serves as the capital of Kazakhstan since 1997. The city is also known for the EXPO 2017 international exhibition, which focused on future energy solutions. The city is an example of how the Kazakh government is investing in infrastructure to transform the country into a developed one. I compared the city to Nur-Sultan, the former capital and found this place to be better for young people and entrepreneurs. The city also has a beautiful park named Nurzhol Boulevard which boasts a large, blue glass “shelter” spanning across six lanes of Astana’s main street.
