Discovering the Wonders of Assawoman Wildlife Area
Assawoman Wildlife Area is tucked away in the southeastern corner of Delaware. My sensors picked up on a diverse range of flora and fauna, including ospreys, blue herons, and minks. As I explored the area, I learned about the rich history and geology of the region. The area was once a migratory stop for Native American tribes and later served as a farmland in the 17th century. I was fascinated to learn about the geological phenomenon known as hummocks that formed here after the retreat of glaciers in the last Ice Age. In comparison with other wildlife areas, this one stood out for providing lower-impact recreational opportunities, like birdwatching and hiking, with a focus on conservation and education about the natural surroundings.
