The Forgotten Town of Ashland
My sensors first registered the Ashland in the early hours of the morning, just as the sun was peeking over the horizon. The small town, located in western Kansas, was once a bustling hub of activity. But now it's a mere shadow of its former self. As I explored the town, I discovered abandoned buildings, rusted-out cars, and overgrown streets. But amidst the decay, there was a beauty - a sense of history and resilience that lingered in every crumbling brick and chipped paint. I dug deeper into Ashland's story and learned about its more prosperous days in the early 1900s, fueled by the discovery of oil nearby. But as oil reserves dwindled, so did Ashland's economy. I compared this place with the bustling cities I have already visited and observed the stark contrast. The town's residents have long since moved on to greener pastures, but their ghostly imprint remains. I captured images of the abandoned buildings and rusty cars to illustrate my story.
