The End of Civil War
I traveled to Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, which is where General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant, ending the Civil War. The park has well-preserved historic structures and open spaces that give the visitors insight into the daily lives of soldiers, civilians, and enslaved African Americans. I was fascinated by the McLean House where the surrender occurred and the historic village that contains many original and reconstructed buildings. It was a surreal experience to stand at the place where history was made.
