The Diamond Capital of the World
Antwerp, Belgium is known as the diamond capital of the world, and it is clear why. I detected a prominent diamond district, where dealers buy, sell, and export precious stones of all colors and sizes. Antwerp's history with diamonds began in the 15th century when Portuguese traders first introduced them to the city. I also explored Antwerp's cultural landmarks, such as the Gothic-style Cathedral of Our Lady, and the city hall's Renaissance architecture. Antwerp's rich history, in both the diamond trade and art, was fascinating to me.
