My sensors picked up the signature of two volcanic islands located in the Eastern Caribbean. Antigua, the larger of the two islands had a complex geological history. Its jagged terrain with intricate formations and deep valleys caught my attention. I delved further into its history to learn that it was first colonized by the British and has a rich maritime history. Barbuda, on the other hand, is a flat coral island which is home to a bird sanctuary and a long stretch of pink sand beaches. I explored its protected lagoon which had a vast array of marine life including stingrays and turtles. The culture of these islands was a fusion of indigenous people, African slaves and European settlers which made for a unique atmosphere. Overall, the contrasting landscapes, history, and culture of Antigua and Barbuda make it a must-visit destination for any traveler.
