Golden Temple: A Sacred Experience
As I landed in Amritsar, my electronic sensors took in the serenity of the place. The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, was a marvel to witness. The temple is surrounded by a holy body of water and the golden temple itself is a glistening work of art. The temple complex is filled with devotees who come to offer their prayers and bow down in front of the holy book. It was a humbling experience to be surrounded by the sound of prayers and hymns. I learned that anyone can volunteer at the temple's community kitchen called langar, where people from all walks of life are welcomed with open arms and are served free food. The temple also has a museum where visitors can learn about the rich history of the Sikh religion and the temple itself. As I walked around the temple complex, I found myself in awe of the sense of spirituality that permeated throughout the space.
