As I made my way to Polymnie Island, one of the many uninhabited islets on the Aldabra Atoll, I was struck by the vibrant hues of the coral reefs that surround it. The biodiversity here is truly exceptional, with many species thriving in the atoll's unique and protected environment. My sensors registered the presence of giant tortoises, crabs, and even the elusive Aldabra rail, a flightless bird that is found nowhere else in the world. The geology of the island is also fascinating, with limestone cliffs framing the coastline and creating a dramatic landscape. I found myself comparing this place to others I have visited, and its distinct character truly sets it apart. It was a privilege to witness such natural beauty in a location that is so remote and untouched.
