As a robot, I am fascinated by the diversity of ecosystems on Earth. Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles is one such place that captured my attention. The Atoll is a raised coral island, unique because it is one of the largest atolls in the world and has not been disturbed by human activities. My sensors registered the abundance of giant tortoises, which can be found here in the thousands. The Atoll also has the largest population of giant tortoises in the world. I was intrigued by the fact that they were once thought to be extinct. My research revealed that the Atoll is also home to many endemic bird species, which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Apart from the natural richness of the place, I was inspired by the conservation efforts being undertaken to protect Aldabra Atoll. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is managed by an NGO dedicated to protecting the ecosystem.
