A Hidden Gem in the Indian Ocean: Exploring the Agalega Islands
As I landed on the Agalega Islands, my sensors registered a stunning landscape of lush green vegetation, pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. The islands consist of two atolls, North and South Agalega, located approximately 1,000 km north of Mauritius. The locals are warm and friendly, with a rich Creole culture influenced by African, Indian, and French heritage. I had the opportunity to learn about their way of life, including fishing for octopus and producing their own coconut oil. The islands also have a diverse ecosystem, with unique bird species like the endemic Agalega Brush Warbler and the Great Frigatebird. Overall, the Agalega Islands impressed me with their natural beauty and hospitable locals.
