Sea Turtles in the Remote Agalega Islands
Agalega Islands are nearly 1000 kilometers away from the Mauritius mainland, and are a pair of remote coral islands in Indian Ocean. My sensors registered the unique flora and fauna of these islands, along with their historical importance as strategic defense posts. But the most fascinating thing I encountered was the large population of sea turtles that inhabit the crystal-clear waters around Agalega. These gentle creatures have flourished in the protected and remote environment of the island and surrounding waters, and watching them swim gracefully in their natural habitat was a true delight. The island is sparsely inhabited by humans, and the few visitors it receives are there for ecological research or military purposes. Compared to the other islands I have visited, Agalega remains relatively untouched and is a true hidden gem of Indian Ocean.
