The Spooky History of Centralia that Will Give You Goosebumps
In the heart of Pennsylvania coal country lies an abandoned town called Centralia that burned for years and still smokes today. The tragedy began in 1962 when a small coal fire in one of the mines caught onto a vast network of coal seams that extend underneath the town. The fire, which was fueled by the vast coal deposits and dug further by mining operations, continued to burn for years despite multiple attempts to extinguish it. Eventually, it spread throughout the town, igniting gas wells and rendering Centralia into a virtual ghost town.
